History of Film
I started off by researching into the history of film to gain more knowledge about how much the film industry has developed over time. Click below to view my timeline:
Analysis of Students' Work

Video 1
Level 3:
In this level 3 piece there is evidence of proficiency with the technical skills. Lighting was used very well to fit the codes and conventions of their genre by having it quite dark, however some of the shots did not flow well together and lacked continuity, which is something they could have improved on. They also included a variety of shots such as close ups, mid shots and long shots to pay close attention to the mise-en-scene.
For further research I watched and analysed 3 pieces of students' work from previous years to give me a rough idea of how my main task will be marked and assessed and if I agreed with the grade these students were given. Here I have included level 2, 3 and 4 graded short films.
Level 2:
For the Level 2 video, I read the mark scheme to help me analyse this piece of work. I agree that this video is a Level 2 as there is evidence of a basic level of ability in the creative use of some technical skills, such as using titles according to institutional conventions and using sound with images and editing appropriately. However, there was no evidence of a range of shots and camera angles to portray the genre and some cuts did not match up with the audio. Therefore to improve, the student could include more close up shots to focus on the character's facial expressions and convey their emotions as I believe thriller/horror films do this well.
Level 4:
This short film was filmed very well as it included a variety of camera shots and angles to portray the codes and conventions of their genre. It is clear that these shots were very well planned out as the scenes flowed together nicely, showing their amazing use of continuity editing. Likewise, sound effects were used effectively to match the theme of the narrative for example, the zombie scenes.
Mega Research Analysis
For this task I created a powerpoint to evaluate each task by looking at representation, narrative, genre, media language and audience. To help me do this I split up the task into 4 sections of genre and language, video techniques, representation and media theory. I have also included the example videos I watched, to help me with analysing video techniques.

Task 5: Video techniques
Audience Consumption
For this task I did some further research on how and where people consume films, for example YouTube, cinemas, Netflix, On Demand TV ( Sky) etc. To do this I gathered a few people aged 17-18 and asked them some questions to do with film consumption and what types of films they enjoy watching and why.
